Heidi K. Schillinger, M.S.W. , Director
Heidi’s experience in community development, adult education, and social enterprise includes over a decade of experience working with diverse, low-income communities – eight years with New Futures and six years living and working abroad, in Mongolia, as a Peace Corps Volunteer, as well as in South Korea. These experiences have helped shape her passion for providing and sharing culturally competent practices. Heidi is currently in charge of directing ReachOut. In this role, she is also one of ReachOut’s primary curriculum designers and trainers. Heidi received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Asian Studies from Saint Olaf College, and her Master’s of Social Work, with an emphasis in Multi-Ethnic Practice, from the University of Washington.

Marissa A. Tanimura, Trainer/Consultant
Marissa is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and brings more than a decade of experience working in and partnering with culturally diverse communities in Hawaii, and more recently, in Washington. As a public school teacher, she was dedicated to developing programs which engaged a full spectrum of students – especially non-traditional learners – by integrating “home culture” into curriculum. For eight of her 11 years in the Hawaii Department of Education, Marissa served in various leadership roles while teaching courses in multiple subject areas. Working as a trainer and consultant for ReachOut since 2008, Marissa has had the opportunity to create and implement sessions addressing a wide range topics through the lens of cultural competence including: workplace skills, educational outcomes, community engagement, as well as leadership and facilitation.
